Meeting with Ambassador Peter Adelbai and Mr. Rhinehart Silas at the New Otani Hotel

This week, I had the opportunity to meet with H.E. Peter Adelbai, Ambassador of the Republic of Palau to Japan, and Mr. Rhinehart Silas, General Manager of the Belau Submarine Cable Corporation, at the New Otani Hotel in Tokyo. Mr. Silas was visiting Japan before returning to Palau on Friday, April 11, 2025, and brought with him a wealth of insight and innovative ideas. His role in overseeing the deployment of Palau’s second marine fiber optic cable positions him at the forefront of the nation’s digital infrastructure development. The meeting provided a timely opportunity to exchange perspectives on how such advancements can serve as a foundation for a wide range of future initiatives in Palau.

Our discussions covered a variety of upcoming projects that could shape Palau’s economic, technological, and social landscape in the years to come. We explored how improved connectivity from the new submarine cable could enable initiatives in digital banking, e-governance, telemedicine, and education, fostering both economic growth and improved quality of life for Palau’s citizens.
